It’s fair to say that 2016 left DC Comics on shaky grounds with movie-goers, what with the mix-bags of both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. But 2017 is looking up for DC as Geoff Johns takes the reigns of the DC Extended Universe, leading us into our first solo live-action film portrayal of Wonder Woman.
Then there’s the big one, due out in November. I’m talking of course about Justice League. Say what you want about the current state of the DCEU but it’s fair to say that Justice League has a lot of attention on it right now (whether it be good or bad). A lot of fans are hoping that this film, along with Wonder Woman, turns the franchise around and finally gets over the repetitive speed-bumps of last year.
To shine some light on the film here’s the latest photo release of the team in full-costume, which was originally posted in USA Today’s 2017 movie preview. The picture features Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Godat as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Ezra Miller as The Flash, and finally Jason Momoa as Aquaman. There is a clear absence of Henry Cavill‘s Superman, which could be an indication that the scene within the photo takes place before his resurrection.
Either way, I’m actually quite excited for this film. I will admit upon a re-watch of Suicide Squad, after I received it for Christmas, it wasn’t as good as I remember it being and the extended cut only made me pine for Jared Leto‘s Joker even more. And despite how much I like the strong elements of Batman v Superman, the Doomsday fight always falls apart for me because of its blandness and stupidity. However, there’s still hope that with Geoff Johns’ help, and a revaluation from both Zack Snyder and Warner Bros., Justice League could still prove to be a hit (here’s hoping).
